NUKG Monthly is (Sort-of) Coming to Rinse FM
Yep, you read that right. I am beyond excited to announce that starting July 2025, I have a monthly residency at Rinse FM, and I will be bringing the journalistic analysis of garage music that’s made up the best of NUKG Monthly.
Since beginning NUKG Monthly in January 2023, I’ve always had grand ambitions, some of which have been realised, some have been impeded by other commitments. I’ve always had the internal joke that this column is called NUKG Monthly, but has never stuck to a monthly schedule due to a combination of other journalistic commitments, life events and my own personal need to write every piece to a high level. Now, I have one of the biggest community radio stations in the country holding me accountable if it isn’t monthly, so the name can finally be realised, even if it’s officially going as my name.
It’s my first venture into radio, and what a place to begin: Rinse, one of the most beloved pirate radio stations that helped many UK club sounds thrive, and one of the few that continues today with that community angle. I love to dip into the Pirate Radio Archives YouTube channel (one of the best channels on the platform) and hearing historic Rinse FM grime and garage sets from Agent X, Pay As You Go Cartel, Newham Generals and Ladies Hit Squad, so to add to that programming in a more official capacity is scarily exciting.
You’ll find me bringing the NUKG Monthly experience to Rinse at 12pm BST on the first Thursday of every month, with audio guides to scenes and sound developments, as well as interviews and guest mixes from new movers and shakers and history-makers alike. I’ll make a post here for each show with any references/sources I cite, and will try my hardest to come with the written stuff as and when I can. It all starts on 3rd July at lunchtime BST, with an audio redux of my Hard House Garage piece from earlier on in the year. Catch you there <3
